E-Books on Apple Devices

Shaking up the nascent market for electronic books for the second time in two months, Amazon.com will begin selling e-books for reading on Apple’s popular iPhone and iPod Touch. Amazon says its Kindle 2 and devices like Apple’s iPhone and iPod are complementary.

Starting Wednesday, owners of these Apple devices can download a free application, Kindle for iPhone and iPod Touch, from Apple’s App Store. The software will give them full access to the 240,000 e-books for sale on Amazon.com, which include a majority of best sellers.

  1. The price of the Kindle is too high for a device that only downloads and reads books, so it is a good idea for making a free software for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Although, reading an e-book on an phone is not appealing.

  2. Technology is moving very fast in our ever-changing society. I'm at the point in my career where I'm just getting to learn what I can do with the computer in ED481. I wouldn't know how to operate the iPod or iPhone. Sorry, I'm still in the ice age period. HA!HA!

  3. It truly amazes me with all the advances in technology. It seems stressful and financially draining to even keep up with the trend of having a state of the art equipment/device. Oh well, I guess it's time to turn in my 80gig iPod video and get an iPod Touch.

  4. I would have to agree with Imasae on this subject. Although it is convenient to download the Kindle application to an iPhone or iPod, I am not a big fan of reading ebooks off such devices.

  5. I like the idea of getting books from the Internet, but purchasing an iPod sounds to expensive to me. I guess that technology is move to fast for me to keep up with, at least money wise.

  6. 240,000 e-books for sale on Amazon.com!!! Amazing, wonderful, fantastic!!! Think of the possibilities for libraries and my personal book collection---less space, easily accessible except when the power goes out on Guam---I guess I should invest in a backup system based on solar and wind power), and the termites won't be able to eat up my books! This is a view into the future! A future that was once considered and portrayed in Sci-Fi movies! It is in keeping with the "School of the Future" description in one of the videos we were assigned to review. In the video, the students were in the library. However, the shelves in the background were empty!!! No books on the shelves. And seated in front of those shelves were the students and the librarian with laptops! The Sci-Fi movies I used to watch when I was younger are no longer fantasy but reality! Like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, I have to hurry and catch up with the trends and uses of technology! "I mustn't be late." I must keep going and catch up!

  7. I think e-books are kind of cool. The main idea is to make money with tech tools especially geared to the younger generation. Anything technical and new is a hot item for the young people. Companies will continually keep making all kinds of tech gadgets to bring in sales. I think it is neat though to be able to have access to 240,000 books in a little device.I still prefer the actual book/s.

  8. I think e-books are a great technology break through. It will definitely save you space on your bookshelf and you will not need light to read. Like Maria said, making money is probably the biggest motivator for these companies, but if it will get kids to read more then so be it.
Personally it is a great thing to have if you can afford it, right now it is not a priority to get.

  9. I've purchased a couple of e-books online. I think it's great. It's cheaper than its printed counterpart, accessible anytime and anywhere. And we helped saved those trees.

  10. This is awfully wonderful. Just image 240,000 books infront of you. It saves you time away from traveling back and forth to the library. Technologically speaking, it is a great tool for learning. Quick and save time.
